Earth Pressure Ballance TBM

The cutting head excavates soil, the space behind the cutting head is fully or partially filled with excavated soil cutting mixed with foam and additives balancing the pressure exerted on the face of the tunnel reducing the chance of ground sedimentation. The pressure in the chamber is controlled by the rotation of an auger conveyor. Smaller pipe jacking tunnel boring machines can be controlled from steering containers whereas most of segmental lining machines have an operator’s control room inside the TBM.
